Shireen Miles was the California State Coordinator for the National Organization for Women (NOW) from 1985 to 1989. The bulk of these papers are from her time in that position as she participated in or lead national and state NOW events and activities. This time period covers a very significant moment in intersectional feminist history including Title IX, the Equal Rights Amendment, equality in the workplace, and the AIDS epidemic. Not only are her personal papers included here, but dozens of original articles, communications, and record-keeping documents are preserved regarding the operations of NOW and the main issues that the organization was addressing at this time.
