The Modern Transit Society consists of two chapters: San Jose and Sacramento. The society promotes mass transportation development and related areas such as pedestrian and cycling access. The Modern Transit Society successfully lobbied for a light rail system in Sacramento and pioneered the fight for improved rail service between Sacramento and the Bay Area. Alfred Bulf was a member of the Modern Transit Society and was on the Newsletter Committee in 1983. The collection consists of files collected by Alfred Bulf, a member of the Modern Transit Society, Sacramento Chaper including publications, articles, newspapers, reports, brochures and correspondence with government transportation authorities and other mass transit advocates.
