Description:
The National Conference of Christians and Jews was established in 1928 as a result of reaction to Catholic presidential hopeful Al Smith's defeat. Its organizational roots existed in the Federal Council of Churches in America, which had formed an inter-religious committee in 1925. The basic programs of the National Conference of Christians and Jews have as their goals the elimination of intergroup prejudices among religions, social, and political groups, as well as the various elements of the business community. Materials in this collection relate to all aspects of the National Conference of Christians and Jews' activities. It includes correspondence, notes, memorandum, reports, agendas, minutes, biographical notes, and press releases.
