Description:
Frederick C. Whitney was born December 3, 1919, in Brooklyn, New York. Upon his discharge from the army in 1946, he entered San Diego State College as an undergraduate, while simultaneously working on several news staffs in San Diego County. Whitney later worked as a part-time lecturer in the Departments of Public Administration and Journalism at San Diego State College. After being tenured and promoted to Associate Professor in the Journalism Department at San Diego State University, Whitney was elected Chairman of the Department in 1975. The collection is primarily concerned with the period in 1972 when Whitney was involved in the Coastal Initiative and Pollution Initiative Election Propositions.
