Organized in 1948 and incorporated in 1953, the San Diego Chapter of the Audubon Society is dedicated to promoting preservation and conservation activities in the greater San Diego region and to providing educational programs on ecology and natural science for area citizens. The Society also established and manages the Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary in addition to other wildlife preserves. The collection documents local conservation, education, environmental planning, land use and development, natural resources, regional planning, water resources, and wildlife. It consists of correspondence, meeting minutes, membership records, notebooks, reports, financial records, and published materials.
