- The Brenda Starr comic strip debuted on June 30, 1940 in the Chicago Tribune. The strip became a daily feature in October 1945. Brenda Starr was created by Dale Messick, one of the few female cartoonists of her time. She drew Brenda Starr for over forty years. Ms. Messick lived in Sonoma County for many years and died there in 2005. The collection is comprised of original hand drawn panels of the Brenda Starr comic strip from the year 1947.
